This chapel is situated on a hill behind the Mount Sant Joan and dates from very far back. Basing their opinion on the characteristics of the watch tower, its large window, the two projections, the tops of the columns and the chapel, the experts have catalogued it as belonging to the 12th century Romanesque style. The chapel -dedicated to Santa Barbara- taken as patron and guardian of the town from the attacks of invaders arriving at these shores. According to tradition, the bell of the hermitage warned the people of Blanes ofthe presence of enemy boats and for this reason Saint Barbara was considered patroness of the town. |
